The Rest is History
Founded in 1988, Columbus Brewing Company is one of the longest-running breweries in Ohio and the oldest brewery in Central Ohio.
Over the years, CBC has revolutionized the craft community. We were one of the first craft brands to introduce an IPA to the Ohio market. We also introduced Bodhi, the most popular DIPA in the state in 2014 before the style gained the popularity it has today. From a small, humble brewery on Short Street to a state-of-the-art brewery today, Columbus Brewing Company is built on a rich, storied tradition, but we brew without boundaries for the future.
80s & 90s
Columbus Brewing Company was founded in 1988 in the Brewery District. A year later, our first flagship beer hit the market—Columbus Pale Ale. It was one of the first hop-forward beers in Columbus and we continued to craft hop-forward styles for the local community into the 90s.
Eric and Beth Bean retained ownership in 2004 with a strong vision for the future and the mantra of quality above all. For the team, beer isn’t a hobby, it’s an obsession and a constant quest to celebrate the best beer imaginable. They helped bring the Columbus craft beer community to its current heights through the release of Columbus IPA, which was one of the first IPAs to hit shelves in the Ohio market.
Eric and Beth had dreams of expanding the company’s philosophy of quality and community throughout Ohio and transitioned operations into the current facility in 2016. The state-of-the-art facility includes a Braukon Brewhouse, high speed packaging lines, a quality lab, a yeast propagation system, a dedicated sour beer cellar and a taproom to bring fresh, exciting beers to our fans.
Columbus Brewing is now one of the best-selling craft brands in Ohio and we're still growing. The brewery will open a 13,000 sq ft restaurant on the east side of Columbus in 2022 near Franklin Park Convervatory.
